How to Make Critical Thinking Your Best Skill!
Session Overview: The webinar will aim to highlight the importance of critical thinking in the work that we do and considers if the necessary skills can be nurtured. It will explore if some people are naturally just better at this and what may lead to that conclusion. It aims to provide some ideas and a framework to apply for those who have not yet had the opportunity to fully develop their critical thinking, as well as re-energizing those who may already be proficient in this area. The RED Framework will be introduced (Recognise Assumptions, Evaluate Arguments, Draw Conclusions), demonstrating how and when to apply it.
Overview
By exploring where it is critical to think critically, the webinar seeks to embed a "start with the end in mind" approach, using some familiar scenarios that will apply to study design and build, conduct and study close-out, as well as giving some guidance on how to overcome barriers to successful critical thinking.

Participants will understand how important critical thinking is to the work that we currently do, and the work that we will evolve to in future as we move away from checklist-based activities to those that require a different skillset. By attending this webinar, there is opportunity to explore tools and resources to help apply critical thinking skills across all of our work.

Meet the Speaker

Claire Haslam
Director, Group Lead, Clinical Data Sciences, Pfizer R&D Ltd
I started my career as a CRA when hauling a bag full of completed CRF pages back to the office was the sign of a good day's work! In the 27 years that have followed, I have been fortunate enough to have been on a growth journey that has seen me in both in site-facing roles, as well as local and global study management, project management and for the last several years in data management, which is still evolving to Clinical Data Science. The ability to see several different perspectives is a great asset to my work, which often involves collaboration with cross-functional teams.
As well as being involved in clinical trial work, I am often to be found participating and leading non-study projects to help shape and evolve how we work, which, apart from delivering high quality data that ultimately changes peoples lives, is one of my greatest passions, as it helps us get there so much more efficiently. Such projects have included those related to Risk-Based Monitoring and more recently Risk-Based Data Management, both of which involve a great deal of change management and embedding the necessary soft skills to be successful, with critical thinking being key as we evolve in line with technological advancements that enable data to be accessed in a more real-time manner and visualized to tell a "data story".
When I am not focusing on what matters at work, I turn my focus to what matters at home, which are my close family members and 2 very bouncy dogs!
